Slotted underneath the mid-size Ranger, the compact Maverick is aimed towards those wanting a genuinely versatile pickup truck, but without the massive size that comes with many of today’s offerings. The compact pickup comes in a 4-door crew cab form only with a 4.5-foot bed, giving it a tidy size without compromising on comfort or utility. The 4-door body style offers ample room for five occupants, with front occupants enjoying supportive bucket seats. Inside, the Maverick features an 8-inch touch screen display with available SYNC 3, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the optional 8-speaker B&O Sound System.

Small truck aficionados and budget-minded shoppers. The 2022 Ford Maverick comes in three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. The XL trim is the workhorse of the Maverick trio, offering a work-oriented appearance with 17-inch steel wheels and cloth bucket seats. Stepping up to the XLT gives you alloy wheels, a snazzier interior with Navy Pier accents, and a few extra creature comforts. The top-of-the-line Lariat adds more exterior colors, ActiveX™-upholstered seats, and extras like dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a larger 6.5-inch instrument cluster screen. Lariat buyers can also choose the First Edition package, which adds distinctive 17-inch or 18-inch wheels depending on engine choice, a black painted roof, distinctive hood, and side graphics decals, and more.
Drive and Handling
Despite sharing the same platform as the off-road-oriented Bronco Sport, the Maverick’s drivetrain takes a greener approach. The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is paired with an electric motor, making it the first hybrid compact pickup of its kind. The 191-horsepower mill sends its power through a continuously variable automatic exclusively to the front wheels. As a result, the Maverick offers an impressive EPA-estimated 40 mpg city and up to 500 miles of estimated range.
Buyers can upgrade to a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine and enjoy up to 4,000 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped with the available Tow Package. Buyers will also get up to 1,500 pounds of payload capacity. The optional EcoBoost engine is backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission with 4WD as an available option.

The 4.5-foot FlexBed is the 2022 Ford Maverick’s killer app. The highly versatile bed offers provisions to install a bike rack as well as multiple types of dividers. The bed itself can handle a flat load of 18 4x8-foot sheets of plywood. The Maverick’s multi-position tailgate extends the small pickup’s load floor to six feet to accommodate longer loads.
